18k White Gold
The setting is created out of 18k White Gold. Because 18k Gold is nearly pure gold, it is slightly softer than 14k Gold.
White Gold and Rhodium Plating
Rhodium is a member of the Platinum family. It is a precious, and extremely expensive metal. Depending on the market, Rhodium can cost twice that of gold and platinum.
The basis of all gold jewelry, is 24k pure gold, which is yellow. Jewelry made of “White Gold” (10k, 14k, 18k) is almost always, plated with Rhodium. Rhodium resists scratching and tarnishing, giving the white, reflective appearance, desired by many designers, jewelers and jewelry owners.
When a piece of “White Gold” jewelry begins to show yellow or gold color, it simply needs to be taken to a competent goldsmith or jeweler, who will clean and Rhodium Plate the piece. We suggest Rhodium Plating every couple years, or commensurate with wear.
Sizing
There is no cost to our clients, for sizing a piece from our “Crown Vault Collection” or “Duchess Collection.”
“Ocean,” is a premiere piece. Our goldsmith will make certain, sizing is done properly, without negatively affecting the structural integrity. If an increase in size is desired, our goldsmith will add 18k Gold. Please, do not take this piece to a jeweler, and have them stretch the 18k band, to increase the size. Stretching is a crude method of sizing, and the entire structure will be negatively affected.
Please read “Sizing” on our main page, to learn “why” there are appropriate methods, of sizing a ring.
It is important for our customer’s to know, that once a ring has been changed in any way, which includes changing the size, we can no longer market the piece as “new” to another client, and the piece is no longer returnable.
Care and Cleaning
To clean a piece of high end jewelry, use a half cup of warm water and a couple drops of dish soap, such as Palmolive or Dawn. Never use toothpaste. Toothpaste will scratch gold, Rhodium Plating and some gemstones.
Allow the piece to soak for approximately a half hour, before trying to clean. Use a super soft, fine brush (NOT A WORN OUT OLD TOOTHBRUSH), and gently remove any buildup of lotion, oils, etc. Rinse and gently pat dry, with a lint free cloth.
Do not allow an employee of a jewelry store, to use a buffer, to “shine up” your jewelry. The buffer may “snag” fine gold details like tiny prongs, which hold delicate, melee diamonds. Buffing can also wear Rhodium plating. Exercise caution when allowing anyone to handle or clean, a fine piece of jewelry.
Store fine jewelry at room temperature, in a protective container, ensuring it doesn’t come in contact with other jewelry.
