The Aquamarine is pleochroic. When viewing an Aquamarine, you will see an array of colors displayed, depending on the direction and light. Colors seen in an Aquamarine may be near colorless to a deep blue, assuring both the wearer and admirer a lovely show, courtesy Mother Nature.
Many Aquamarines are heat treated to improve their color. Heat treatment changes the natural color of an Aquamarine, to a more blue color. This Aquamarine has not been heat teated. The color is a natural, cool blue. Spectacular!
Mother Nature left a delicate touch of even deeper blue hues, in what appears to be a fine brushstroke of “watercolor” on one edge of the horizontal crown area. This is not a defect, but a unique mark which is exceptionally beautiful, though difficult to see, Something an artist would truly appreciate.
Two Latin words have given “Aquamarine” its name: Aqua means “water,” and marina, which means “of the sea.”
The Aquamarine is a variety of beryl. Other varieties of beryl include Emerald, Golden Beryl or Heliodor, Morganite and Goshenite. Goshenite is near colorless.
Lore suggest beryl protects the wearer in battle and from foes. Some believe this gemstone makes the wearer so powerful, they are unconquerable. Beryl is also believed by some, to sharpen the intellect of the wearer. The Earth Mined Sapphire Company has so far not found proof of the historical lore, associated with beryl and Aquamarine.
