What is the difference between a gem described as "Bluish Green" vs "Blue-Green?" Interpreting the color designations for those who are not familiar, may create questions. When GIA Laboratory determines the color or colors of a gemstone, the gemologists are very specific. This Tourmaline is rich in color, boasting lavish blues and greens. A color description such as "Bluish Green" means the base color of the gemstone is green, but there are blue hues. A color description such as "Bluish-Green" using a "-" means the gem colors, in this case blue and green, can be seen as separate colors, but blend together. Not creating a line of distinction. This exquisite creation of Mother Nature has a show of bright hues of Indicolite Blue in some areas which blend magnificently with other areas which are bright hues of cheerful apple green. The colors of this gemstone are iridescent. Tourmalines are pleochroic, showing magnificent changes in hue depending on the lighting. This gem is special. This gemstone would be magnificent, set in a ring or pendant. The colors are magnificent, actually spectacular, not necessarily needing natural earth mined diamonds as accents. But, protecting this gemstone is important. For those familiar with natural Tourmaline, you know the natural earth mined Tourmaline is not as hard as a diamond or sapphire. Tourmalines are a 7.0 - 7.0 on the Mohs Scale of harness. Whereas a natural earth mined Diamond is a 10.0 and a natural earth mined Sapphire is a 9.0 on the Mohs Scale. If the wearer of this beautiful Tourmaline feels they will wear the ring often, a design which includes natural earth mined Diamonds set around the gemstone in a custom design, will protect the Tourmaline. Diamonds are a very durable and protect other precious gemstones which are not as hard or durable. The color of the metal used is of great importance, and should be chosen with the personality of the wearer in mind. If this Blue-Green Tourmaline is set in Platinum or White Gold, a crisp, fresh and modern look will be created. If this Blue-Green Tourmaline is set in Yellow Gold, the Blue-Green Tourmaline will take on a warmer, earthy appearance.
